Walking is what we evolved to do and we are meant to do lots of it.
Before the average work day involved sitting for 8 hours people were
active all day. Walking, running, lifting, stretching, carrying,
pushing, pulling, stepping, climbing...
Most of us can no longer
fit this amount of activity into our busy lives. But you can still get
huge benefits from simply walking for 30 minutes every day. You could also consider buying a pedometer to count how many steps you make in a day and start a stepping competition with people at work or at home. You should try to achieve at least 10,000 steps each day.
Walking
is fun, good for your health, reduces your stress levels, costs nothing
and can lead to new discoveries in your neighbourhood while a reducing
your waist size.
Try walking to or from work, or both, get off
the bus or train earlier to walk part of the way, take the steps rather
then the elevator, go for a walk at lunch, walk in the evening
after dinner, walk your dog or a friends dog. All of these activities
burn calories, improve your health and make you feel better immediately.
